Start small, save big!

This picture reminds me of my grandmother, MaryAnn Hicks. She was a widow that lived on a fixed income from SSI and VA Benefits. She could not afford to hire someone to repair everything. But one thing she did have was alot of time. She didn't have to go to work. So she took her time and did little by little. We would look through the newspaper looking for sales and good deals. We would also look for garage sales and store closings. I loved browsing the store for clearance items. Today we want everything done now! My grandmother didn't care if a project was not finished on time for holiday. The important thing is, "We're working on it!" She didn't feel her best everyday. So to take a day off to watch the Soaps and "Gun Smoke" was okay. I can remember the pride I felt when we completed a project that we had done ourselves. And she would point out how much money we saved. I didn't realize how important that was at the time. I do now! From gardening, quilting, cooking, and home repair; we did it! When you do home projects with your kids it gives them a sense of value and stewardship. I want to dedicate my first post in this section to my grandmother MaryAnn. She not only taught me but showed me that women do everything at home!

Nice to see a woman who manages home improvement! Well, nowadays, women are really independent. They can now fix stuff that men usually work on. Believe it or not, my grandma was the one who advised me about choosing quality doors. St. Louis is my current home town today. I'm so proud to tell my friends that my grandma helped me in renovating my apartment.
All I can say is, "ROCK n' Roll!" Your grandma is really amazing! If get old, I want to be like her. She's very independent in doing tasks at home. Metal spiral stairs in our kitchen and ornamental iron doors in our living have been installed yesterday. So today, I'm looking forward to designing our kitchen and living room. I want to change the paint of my kitchen's wall. Maybe a stencil design is fit for our kitchen's wall. While for our living room, ahmmm… I have no idea if I should need to paint it into new color or redesign it.
